It was a day of laughter, sightseeing, music and fellowship as St. Paul’s MP E.P. Chet Greene hosted his annual appreciation day for senior citizens, giving dozens of elders from the constituency a memorable day dedicated to celebrating their invaluable contribution to the community.
The annual outing took seniors on a journey across Antigua, combining entertainment and relaxation with an opportunity to see some of the country’s major developments firsthand.
Among the stops were Dennis Bar and Tamarind Hill Hotel at Ffryes, the Ivan Rodrigues Reverse Osmosis Plant, the site of the planned Barnacle Point marina development and Pleasure Cove at Runaway Beach, where the group received a warm welcome from Jason George-John.
For Greene, the event was about much more than a day away from home. He said it was an opportunity to honour the men and women who have helped shape St. Paul’s and Antigua and Barbuda through their years of service, sacrifice and community involvement.
“Our elders are not just the keepers of our history; they are the very soul of our community,” Greene said. “Seeing them light up as we celebrated yet another special calendar date together was simply priceless.”
The excursion also gave participants an opportunity to see developments taking place across the country while enjoying the camaraderie of friends and neighbours.
The atmosphere was further lifted by a strong line-up of local entertainment. Calypsonians Spider-Man, Rover, Faithful, Dr. Paul and Lyrical Reds helped keep the seniors entertained, while popular soca artiste Claudette Peters made a special appearance.
Greene expressed heartfelt appreciation to the sponsors, donors, caterers, transportation providers and volunteers whose contributions helped bring the annual celebration to life.
He also extended thanks to the management and staff of Dennis Bar and Tamarind Hill Hotel, the team at the Ivan Rodrigues Reverse Osmosis Plant, the management behind the proposed Barnacle Point marina development and George-John for hosting the seniors at Pleasure Cove.
The MP said the success of the event reflected the strong relationship that continues to exist between the St. Paul’s community and its senior citizens.
For the seniors, however, the day was about more than sightseeing and entertainment. It was a chance to reconnect, share memories, enjoy good company and feel appreciated by the community they helped to build.
The annual appreciation day has become a meaningful fixture on the St. Paul’s calendar, providing a special opportunity for the constituency to give back to its elders.
And judging by the smiles, music and fellowship throughout the day, the message from St. Paul’s was unmistakable: the community remembers, values and celebrates its seniors.
