The crown belongs to King Young Destroyer, who has been crowned the 2026 Cavalier Rum Calypso Monarch, claiming top honours in one of the most anticipated competitions on the Antigua Carnival calendar.
Young Destroyer emerged victorious following a spirited night of lyrical battles, social commentary, humour and powerful performances, earning the judges’ nod in a competition that once again placed the spotlight firmly on Antigua and Barbuda’s rich calypso tradition.
Dr. Solo secured the first runner-up position, while Lyrical Reds captured second runner-up, according to the official results released by the Antigua Carnival Festivals Commission following Friday night’s competition.
The competition also saw several special awards handed out to performers who stood out in key categories.
Dr. Solo walked away with the Philbert Mason Award for Best Social Commentary, recognising his ability to use calypso as a vehicle for commentary on issues affecting society.
Melypnostick earned the Most Humorous Award for the song “Tek De Money,” while Dr. Paul was recognised as the Most Improved performer.
The competition once again demonstrated the versatility of Antigua’s calypsonians, with performers using sharp lyrics, humour, social observation and commanding stage presence to entertain audiences while keeping the traditional art form relevant.
The Antigua Carnival Festivals Commission congratulated all of the calypsonians who took part, praising them for “keeping the spirit of calypso alive with powerful performances and lyrical excellence.”
The Commission also expressed appreciation to the performers for helping to make the 2026 Cavalier Rum Calypso Monarch competition “another unforgettable night of Antigua Carnival.”
For King Young Destroyer, however, the night ended with the ultimate prize: the Calypso Monarch crown and the right to reign as Antigua’s calypso king for 2026.
The lyrics were sharp, the competition was fierce, and when the final results were announced, King Young Destroyer stood alone at the top.
