A well-attended town hall meeting hosted by Hon. E. P. Chet Greene, Member of Parliament for St. Paul, at Cobbs Cross Primary School on Monday, June 22, 2026, outlined a broad range of community development initiatives spanning infrastructure, public safety, youth empowerment and environmental management.
The meeting, which featured strong participation and engagement from residents, focused heavily on strengthening community relationships and advancing a structured development agenda for the constituency.
Residents were updated on the completion of a major bulk waste removal campaign across the constituency. The next phase will focus on clearing gutters and waterways, along with rehabilitation work at the pond in Piccadilly to improve water retention ahead of the hurricane season.
Environmental concerns were also raised regarding persistent garbage disposal challenges near Cobbs Cross Primary School. The National Parks Authority (NPA) has reportedly acquired additional garbage trucks, with increased collection schedules expected to begin in October.
Water supply challenges remain a central concern, though authorities highlighted ongoing mitigation efforts. The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) has procured pumps intended to improve water distribution to Hillside, Cobbs Cross, and Falmouth.
A major refurbishment project is underway for Patterson’s Cistern, while expansion plans have been outlined for the Pigeon Point Reverse Osmosis Plant. Residents were encouraged to invest in household water storage systems to strengthen resilience amid ongoing supply constraints.
The government reaffirmed its preference for concrete road construction, citing durability and improved resilience against storms and flooding.
The MP highlighted plans which were outlined for the rehabilitation of the English Harbour and Falmouth recreational complex, along with the proposed development of the Swamp Lands into a public park. Assistance has also been pledged for improvements to the English Harbour football field.
Residents also called for improved playground facilities and expanded community spaces, which form part of a three-year rollout plan for social infrastructure.
MP Greene emphasized that sustainable community development requires adequate financing, noting that businesses must contribute fairly through revised licensing arrangements to support ongoing projects.
Other matters raised included the establishment of a hurricane shutter manufacturing programme employing local youth, improvements in street lighting, enhanced signage and street naming and beautification efforts across the constituency.
A proposal was also made to establish a Street Naming Committee to formally recognize individuals who have contributed to community development.
Minister Greene concluded town hall with agreement that development efforts in St. Paul will continue to focus on a structured, multi-year approach aimed at improving infrastructure, strengthening resilience and expanding opportunities for residents.
