Gregory Shoy Athill, popularly known as “Driftwood”, has secured a decisive re-election as President of the Antigua National Taxi Association (ANTA), winning a strong mandate to lead the organisation for another two years.
Athill and his “Dedicated to Excellence” team emerged victorious in ANTA’s Biennial General Election held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, defeating the other contenders and earning the continued confidence of the Association’s membership.
The result marks a strong endorsement of Athill’s first term, which began in 2024 under the theme “Restructure and Unity.”
During the past two years, Athill’s administration says it has overseen significant growth and transformation within ANTA, including prudent financial management, greater transparency and strategic planning. The Association has tripled its assets, strengthened its organisational structure, expanded services to members and improved its financial stability.
With tourism at the heart of Antigua and Barbuda’s economy, Athill has also placed a strong emphasis on improving the quality of service offered to visitors. His administration introduced ongoing hospitality and customer-service training programmes designed to enhance the experience of tourists travelling with ANTA members.
The Association has also strengthened engagement with government ministries, hotels, tourism partners and private-sector stakeholders in an effort to create greater opportunities for taxi operators while contributing to the continued development of Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism product.
In his acceptance address, Athill thanked his executive team for its dedication throughout both the election campaign and his first term, while expressing appreciation to ANTA members for renewing their confidence in his leadership.
He described the election result as “a victory for unity, professionalism, and the continued advancement of the Association.”
Athill also extended gratitude to the Government of Antigua and Barbuda for its continued support of ANTA and its members.
He singled out Prime Minister Gaston Browne for honouring his commitment to provide land for the Association through the Ministry of Agriculture, describing the development as a historic milestone for ANTA.
The ANTA president also thanked Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez and the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority for their continued partnership and support.
Looking ahead to his second term, Athill has identified member welfare, expanded training, stronger stakeholder partnerships and higher professional standards as key priorities.
He pledged that ANTA will continue working to build a stronger and more professional taxi sector while playing a leading role in delivering the high-quality service expected by visitors to Antigua and Barbuda.
