Antigua and Barbuda has officially entered the final 100-day countdown to one of the most significant international events in its history, as preparations intensify for the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which will be held from November 1 to 4.
The milestone signals a major step forward in the nation’s readiness to host leaders, delegates, business executives, youth representatives, civil society organizations, international partners and members of the global media from the Commonwealth’s 56 member states.
Government officials say the meeting presents an unprecedented opportunity for Antigua and Barbuda to showcase its leadership, culture, hospitality and capacity to host a world-class international event while contributing to discussions on issues affecting Commonwealth nations.
Chairman of the CHOGM 2026 National Taskforce and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Immigration, Hon. E.P. Chet Greene, described the occasion as a defining moment for the country.
“The 100-day milestone represents an important chapter in Antigua and Barbuda’s journey to hosting CHOGM 2026,” Greene said. “It reflects the dedication, collaboration and national effort that have guided our preparations.”
He said the meeting offers an extraordinary platform to highlight the country’s resilience, achievements and potential while welcoming the Commonwealth family to its shores.
“I encourage all citizens and residents to embrace this historic moment and recognize the important role each of us will play in making CHOGM 2026 a success,” the minister added.
High Commissioner for Antigua and Barbuda to the United Kingdom and member of the Commonwealth Board of Governors, Karen-Mae Hill, also underscored the importance of the upcoming summit.
“As a proud member of the Commonwealth family, Antigua and Barbuda is honoured to host CHOGM 2026 and provide a platform for dialogue, collaboration and partnership among member states,” Hill said.
She noted that the meeting will allow leaders to strengthen cooperation, address common challenges and reaffirm the values that unite the Commonwealth while giving Antigua and Barbuda an opportunity to demonstrate its warmth, excellence and spirit of partnership.
Meanwhile, Co-Lead of the Media and Public Affairs Committee of the CHOGM National Taskforce, Sharifa George, said public engagement will remain a key focus during the final months leading up to the event.
“Reaching the 100-day milestone marks the beginning of the final countdown to CHOGM 2026,” George said. “Our focus remains on ensuring that every citizen and resident understands the importance of this historic event and feels a part of Antigua and Barbuda’s journey.”
To commemorate the milestone, members of the National Taskforce have launched a series of media appearances across radio and television platforms to provide updates on preparations and increase public awareness about the significance of the meeting.
The outreach campaign will continue throughout the countdown, bringing information directly to communities while encouraging national participation.
As part of its public engagement efforts, the Taskforce is also using Antigua Carnival 2026 to raise awareness of CHOGM. Through interactive activations during Carnival festivities, officials will engage both residents and visitors, share information about the summit and celebrate Antigua and Barbuda’s role as host nation.
These activities form part of a broader national awareness campaign aimed at building excitement and ensuring citizens understand the long-term opportunities that hosting CHOGM will bring, including increased international visibility, stronger diplomatic ties and expanded economic opportunities.
With just 100 days remaining before the Commonwealth convenes in Antigua and Barbuda, officials are calling on the entire nation to join the countdown and take pride in showcasing the very best of the twin-island state as it prepares to welcome the world for what promises to be a landmark event in the country’s history.
